I’m very pleased to say that I have started a fellowship with the Earth League, an international organisation that “provides scientific insights on change and transformation within the Earth system and informs decision-making for global sustainability.” I’m joining a very esteemed group, some of who I’ve worked with in some way or other for many years. One of the League’s most recent outputs was the article Living Beyond Limits.
Many working on climate change know of the Ten New Insights in Climate Science published annually. Alongside that and other reports, the Earth League contributes to international climate diplomacy such as the UNFCCC COPs. Part of its mission is to provide timely scientific input into such forums. We need this more than ever.
About that name: Earth League. I will be honest and say my first thoughts hearing it many years ago, were of people in brightly coloured costumes flying across the sky. I have yet to see that myself. But then, not all heroes wear capes.
