Expansion of UK airports makes no economic sense

It doesn’t make much climate sense either, but given we are dealing with government ministers, it’s pounds and pence that can only make sense to them. I was one of the signatories to a letter we sent to the Secretary of State for Transport Rt Hon Heidi Alexander, and Chancellor Rt Hon Rachel Reeves. The Times was good enough to cover it (image below). Link to letter hosted by New Economics Foundation here and link to Alex Chapman’s Likedin post here.

Perhaps we will get a reply. It won’t substantively engage with the issues we raise. But we need to keep doing this, hammering home the simple message that airport expansion cannot be defended on any basis – other than the very narrow interests connected to the airports and airlines.
