I’m fascinated by the Earth system, how life emerged and evolved on it, and what that meant for the development of the planet. My current research explores how we interact with the Earth and how such interactions will affect humans now and potentially far into the future.
I am a co-chair of Sustainability Science Southampton and leader of the MSc Sustainability program. Previously I was a research scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry, Jena, Germany. My work centered around the astrobiology project Planetary Evolution and Life. I carried out my doctoral research in the Centre for Computational Neuroscience & Robotics at the University of Sussex, UK.
In 2017 I will be a Visiting Researcher at the Tokyo Institute of Technology.
A (patchy) list of my current and previous PhD students is available here.
